In Kachin State, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and local residents living in villages along the Irrawaddy River including N-gan, Nawng Hkying, and Labang Kahtawng are reportedly facing difficulties due to the lack of regular electricity supply.
Although electricity is sometimes available for a short period at night, frequent power outages occur, and during the daytime, electricity is mostly unavailable. As a result, daily activities and students’ study hours are being affected.
Due to the irregular power supply, some residents rely on generators, while those who cannot afford them are using candles, solar lamps, or firewood for lighting.
At the IDP camp in N-gan Village, there are 244 households with a total population of 1,144 people, including about 150 school going children.
Currently, in Kachin State, the unstable electricity supply has caused difficulties for the general public, who are unable to access power consistently.
Meanwhile, assistance from NGOs and the World Food Programme (WFP) has gradually decreased and disappeared due to political issues, according to reports.
