Woman Attacked with Handmade Gun and Robbed in Indaw Township

A woman was reportedly attacked with a handmade firearm near Pin Wai Village in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region.
The incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on October 2 near the Pin Wai area along the Maw Lu-Naba road. The victim, a woman transporting motorcycle batteries for sale, was followed by a man on another motorcycle. The man rode up behind her, blocked her way from the front, threatened her with a knife, and robbed her of her wallet.
As she struggled to break free and attempted to flee, the assailant fired a handmade gun at her, hitting her arm. She sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.It is reported that the woman is an internally displaced person (IDP) from Mansi who was traveling from Nampan to Maw Lu to sell batteries when the incident occurred.
About 300,000 kyats in cash kept in her wallet was stolen. She had been traveling with companions to sell goods, but the robbery took place when she was momentarily behind the group. A young man suspected to be the robber, believed to have carried a handmade firearm, has been arrested for questioning.
Residents say robberies have been occurring frequently in Indaw Township. Just last week, two individuals stopped a passenger vehicle returning from Mandalay and robbed more than one million kyats from passengers.It was also reported that on August 5, an armed robbery took place at a shop in Indaw town, where robbers killed the shopowner,a married couple resulting in the husband’s death.
