Woman Injured by Artillery Explosion in Indawgyi Area Dies While Receiving Treatment

In Hepar village, Indawgyi area, Moe Nyin Township, Daw Tin Nu, a 50-year-old woman who was injured by an artillery explosion on May 24, has died while receiving medical treatment.


“Around the time the military bombed our village from the air, the young people all fled, and the elders stayed home. The artillery shell landed on a house, killing a married couple instantly. Daw Tin Nu, who was injured, died after five days of treatment at Myitkyina Hospital,” said a local man from Hepar village.


On May 24 at around 6 PM, artillery fire from the 389th Battalion exploded in Hepar village, killing a married couple, U Chan Maung (62 years old) and his wife Daw Khin Pyone (59 years old), on the spot. Daw Tin Nu, aged 50, sustained severe injuries to both legs and other parts of her body.


Daw Tin Nu was transferred from Chaung Wa Hospital to Myitkyina Hospital for treatment but passed away on May 29, five days after the incident.


Daw Tin Nu was the sister-in-law of U Chan Maung, who died instantly at the scene.
