A woman was killed and a child was injured in Lone Khin village, Hpakant area, as a result of an airstrike carried out by the military junta, according to a local source.

“Until around 2 p.m. today, we could still hear the sounds of gunfire. The plane was flying overhead, it looked like the same one. I heard that a woman was killed and a child was injured by the airstrike,” a local resident from Hpakant said.

It was reported that at around 1:30 p.m., the junta used a Y-12 aircraft to drop at least 10 bombs over the areas of Taw Maw, Kathtan Yang, and Kan Si. One of the bombs exploded on a house in Kathtan Yang village, part of the Lone Khin village tract, killing one woman and injuring a child.

In addition to the clashes taking place near Lone Khin village between the junta troops and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) joint forces, the military has also conducted multiple airstrikes using Y-12 aircraft in areas where KIA’s Battalion 6 is based.

Although the Hpakant region had been relatively calm in mid October, renewed military operations have been taking place since November 9, leading to the resumption of clashes between junta forces and joint revolutionary troops.

Reports indicate that the military commission has resumed its offensives in the Hpakant area in an effort to secure territorial control and ensure elections can be held.
