A young man returning home in Du Kahtawng Ward, Myitkyina, was reportedly attacked by a group of four unidentified young men around 8 PM on July 27. According to local sources, he was beaten by the group and suffered a fractured rib on his right side.

"A motorbike was badly damaged. The attackers didn’t take the bike, they just beat him. When people came out, they ran away. He had several injuries. His right rib is broken. The bike was knocked down and the key went missing, but fortunately, it didn’t shut off completely. He came back riding the motorbike, with blood on his head and legs, and his clothes were torn," said someone close to the victim.

According to reports, the victim was riding his bike near Kaung Myat Kyaw restaurant in Du Kahtawng when the group of four suddenly hit him with sticks, causing the bike to crash. While he was down, the group continued beating him with sticks before fleeing when people from nearby shops and houses came out to investigate.

The victim is a 24-year-old male, who is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries, including a fractured right rib. It is believed that the attackers were also youths, likely in their teens.

Residents report that since the collapse of law and order in Myitkyina, incidents of robbery and assaults have become increasingly frequent. Despite the rising crimes, the absence of accountability or intervention has led to worsening conditions, locals say.
