Young Man Shot in Manhkring Ward

It was reported that in Manhkring Ward, Myitkyina, Kachin State, at around 8:30 p.m. yesterday, an unidentified young man was shot and wounded in the leg.

The incident occurred while he was walking near the Unity Statue roundabout in Manhkring ward, when a group of unknown men opened fire on him.

“Last night in our ward, there have been so many robberies and muggings that the ward elders discussed arranging rotating neighborhood security. On the way back from that meeting, shots were fired. One person was hit and had to be sent to the hospital. The bullet hit his thigh,” a local resident explained.

Because robbery and mugging incidents have become increasingly rampant at night in Manhkring ward, ward elders had discussed with locals to collectively take turns safeguarding the ward. It was on the way back from such discussions that the shooting took place. Locals stated they do not know who the perpetrators were.

In addition, besides Manhkring ward, in recent days within Myitkyina city, robberies and muggings have been occurring frequently, not only at night but even during the daytime causing residents to be especially cautious when going out.
